Current Events Project.?

ohkay, i am getting an article for my current events

that has to do with the environment...

Do you have any suggestions on:

How to write my speech?,

Nervousness,?

How to make better eye contact?,

AND

how to speack more clearly,?.

Current Events Project.?
When you write your speech make sure that you read it out loud. Also, if you can, read your speech to someone close to you. Read your speech as many times as you can before you have to do it. This will help you be able to make more eye contact. If you know the speech you will be able to look up more and not have to worry about where you left off.

As far as nervousness...I always took a lot of deep breaths and tried to think of something that's funny to keep my mind off of the fact that I was scared to death to get in front of a classroom of my peers. Make sure you have something to keep your hands occupied. If you will be using a podium keep your hands flat on the podium so you won't fidget with anything on the podium. Also, one thing that me and almost everyone in my speech class got criticized about was swaying or rocking back and forth while giving your speech. Try your best to stand still or keep your movements as little as possible. Pay attention to your other classmates and if they do something that looks bad, try not to do it yourself.

As far as speaking clearly....Always talk slower than you think you should talk. Even if you feel like you are sounding dumb, you probally are still not talking slow enough. If your speech is timed make sure you time yourself giving the speech several times.

As far as writing your speech...Make sure you don't use any words or combinations of words that you have trouble saying. Make sure that you know what you're talking about so it will be easier to talk about and you'll be able to answer questions, if there are any.

I hope this helps!

Good luck!!!
Reply:I went to nationals for speech and debate in high school... and EVERY speech i wrote followed the following outline format:

I.Intro

A. Attention getter (analogy, quote, shocking statistic)

B. Topic (blatantly state your topic... "blah is blah")

C. State 3 points to the topic ("blah is blah" because of blah, blah and blah. the last 3 blahs will be the topic sentences of the 3 body paragraphs)

II.Topic 1... Blah 1

A.

B.

C.

III.Topic 2...Blah 2

A.

B.

C.

IV.Topic 3...Blah 3

A.

B.

C.

V. Conclusion

A.Topic sentence

B.The 3 topics you covered (the 3 blahs)

C. Reconnect to the attention getter

On each of the middle three paragraphs just fill in the ABCs with 3 more subtopics for each subtopic. The 3 blahs can be organized however but some good ideas are chronology(time order), good better best, etc. You can also just do 2 blah topics by doing comparisons or pro and con.

For nervousness I would just remind you that everyone else in your class is in the same boat. And even though you will think you sound dumb... you don't. Just try not to do any thing funky with your hands and/or body. If you have long hair tie it up or back that day so you don't play with it. DON'T imagine everyone in their underwear... instead pretend they are all zoned out... which most probably will be. Eye contact is easy. Just pretend you are talking to different people. Change the person every once in a while. just don;'t stare them down. In order to speak clearly stay focused on slowing down. nerves will want to speed you up. Remember how in kindergarten the teacher made you put two fingers between words to be sure you left enough space? Do the same here... but in your mind. Imagine a beat between words if you can.... most of all dont freak out. Just pretend you are having a conversation with a bunch of people who are all quiet for once. You will have your least fake sounding speaking voice, you will lose nerves and you will make eye contact... good luck!!!!!!!! Let me know how it goes if you can!
