Events in venice/florence/rome in june?

hello! me and 5 other friends are backpacking across europe and will be in italy from 9th-15th june; 9th in venice, 10th and 11 in florence, and the rest in rome. are there any events happening then? what are the things we should do while we are there? i'm from asia so i'm kinda clueless. anyway i've been checking this site for attractions to go to and i'm looking for something a little more than the usual touristy thing to do.. i really cant wait to go there. all help will be appreciated, thanks!!

Events in venice/florence/rome in june?
You might want to rethink your timing of your visit to Italy. Rome is so ridiculously hot in mid june that most of the locals leave the city and it pretty much shuts down for a month. Best time to visit is a few weeks before or after the summer month of hell.

Mouseover and mousedown events in Firefox and Netscape?

I am using some mouse over and mouse down events on a webpage and right now it only works in internet explorer?

Are mouseover and mousedown events not supported by other browsers? In not is there something similar?

The page is:

http://www.yearofthemonkey68.com/collabo...

And when you mouseover the picture the person's name comes up under their photo. And when you click the photo their bio information loads off to the left.

Also anyone know how to change the scrollbar colours in browsers other than ie?

Thanks

Mouseover and mousedown events in Firefox and Netscape?
I just looked at my Firefos JavaScript Console (tools-%26gt;Javascript Console), and saw some errors such as 'mikebio is not defined'.

Might it be that the included file 'GeneratedItems/CSScriptLib.js' is not compatible with Firefox?
Reply:(1) Both depend on the website user having javascript enabled; (2) try onclick instead of onmousedown
Reply:Well, awesome picture on your index file!

However none of the links work....I mean when you click on the picture it gives you very limited information on the artist.

I wouldn't recommend changing scroll bar colors.

But that's just my opinion.

Cheers!

Has YA Current Events attracted more than its fair share of the mentally challenged tonight ?

I have noticed that YA Current Events has been plagued this afternoon by morons making serious unsubstantiated allegations against other users, and complete retards answering with multiple 'blahs' and 'oooos' who then ask a question to say how 'clever' they are.

Why has YA Current Events attracted the whole Madhouse instead of just its usual nutters we come to know and love ?

Ignorant about current events; where should I start?

I am hopelessly ignorant about what's going on in the world right now. I need to do more reading about current events so that I don't look dumb in conversations anymore. Besides the Iraq war and the upcoming presidential elections, what are some other current events/issues that I should pay attention to?

Thanks!

Is anyone an Events Planner?

I have wanted to be a journalist for a while, but recently thought that I might enjoy being an events planner more. I am extremely organized and everyone says I would be good for this career. Is anyone or do you know anyone who is an events planner? Are there any tips you can give me or anything I should know? I do know that sometimes it can be very stressful!!

Is anyone an Events Planner?
I have an events planner that works for me. They plan events from 40 up to 2500 people.

It is very hard work, but very fun. You need to have skills with people, organization, budgeting, contracts, and then food and beverage knowledge.

What other job is there where you get paid to plan events and parties and don't have to spend any of your own money!

There are all kinds of meeting planning companies, and you can find them by checking out the links below.
Reply:This sounds like a cool job....please let me know if you get any other information on it. I went to the website, but they only contained International event planners, I wonder if there are any in the United States....

Does anyone know any IMPORTANT plot events in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone? (The book to be specific) If you know any events, please help me by telling my the event and the page number if possible

Anyone know any important plot events in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone?
The mirror of Erised part. Erised is desire spelled backwards and at the very end with the meeting with Quirrell and Voldemort Harry looks into the mirror and sees himself holding the sorcerer's stone. This shows that Harry wanted to get the stone away from Snape. (His original suspect) and he wanted to get it to keep it away form Voldemort because he thought that Snape, had he found the stone, would turn it over to Voldemort for eternal life.

Hope this helps answer your question.

BTW I am a huge Harry Potter Fan I think I can answer ALMOST any Harry Potter question!!

Events that happened during the Holocaust??

I have two essay question's I need to do for history %26amp; can't seem to find the info I need. I might post another question later about the other essay question but for now I need info about the events that happend during the Holocaust. For example, what did they make the jews do %26amp; ect.. Thanks!

Events that happened during the Holocaust??
Here's a few to start you off with!

* The Nazis kinda started out slow making the Jews wear stars of David on their clothes %26amp; started to take over their businesses.

* After a while they weren't allowed anywhere including schools.

* Then they were moved to ghettos %26amp; concentration camps. Some people even hid Jews in their homes.

* In the ghetto, which is blocked off, they couldn't even make a living %26amp; take care of their families. Nazis would toy w/ the Jews as they pleased in ghettos making them work or worse..... killing them if they had a deformation of some sort.

* Concentration camps were death camps. Most were starved %26amp; worked to death just because!

*** I suggest googling the Holocaust %26amp; even try googling Schindler or Ann Frank. There's plenty of websites about the Holocaust just look.

* Sorry, I took a Holocaust class in high school but that was a while ago. Good luck!
Reply:Asking questions like "what did they make the jews do" is SO broad a question, I'm not sure where to start.

Here are some thoughts in no particular order:

First, thought, search google.com for "pogroms" and/or "concentration camps"

At a minimum, the Jewish people had to wear bright yellow stars on their clothing to signify that they were Jews. They were herded into restricted areas (prior to the concentration camps). At the camps they were forced to do manual labor with VERY little to eat/drink.

Some "lucky" people, were told to take care of (i.e., serve) the commandant (You might want to read the book The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne) -- it gives a good description of Concentration Camp life from a different perspective.

Good luck with your research/writing.
Reply:1. In Germany, Jews were restricted, and then eventually many were rounded up and put into concentration camps. Many of these were put to death and cremated.
Reply:you had really better be careful coming to these sites asking for info on such things. there are idiots these days that are saying the holocaust never happened. so be ware of those people.

Deaf-Friendly Pagan Events???

Merry Meet ~

I am a Deaf Pagan who is trying to find more information about Pagan gatherings, festivals, public rituals, etc. that are "Deaf-Friendly" - meaning that sign language interpreters and/or other accommodations are provided for deaf and hard of hearing participants, %26amp; efforts are taken to help such individuals feel welcomed.

As a practicing Pagan for 25+ years, finding such "Deaf-Friendly" events has been a challenge... not only for myself, but for other Deaf Pagans all around the country. While we may be a small group scattered far %26amp; wide, we also desire %26amp; deserve the opportunity to join with others in the practice of our spirituality.

I get a lot of emails from other Deaf Pagans asking about covens, rituals, gatherings, workshops, etc. in their areas that they might be able to attend. I'm now trying to create a resource list of such.

Please... if you have any knowledge of, or would be willing to assist with such events, leave a response!

Deaf-Friendly Pagan Events???
The Pagan Pride event in Fresno, California had an interpreter at the last gathering. I think most of them do, especially if you request it ahead of time. They try to be accommodating with disabilities, vegetarians and the deaf community.

Good luck! this is a good resource listing you're trying to put together. W

On the homepage, my scheduled events are showing up on the day before they're actually happening (for example, on Thursday, April 17) but when I go to the actual calendar, they are posted on the correct date (for example, on Friday, April 18). I was in California when I posted these events, but now I'm in France, with my computer. Could the change in location have something to do with this?

Why are my events showing up one day early on my homepage Calendar? My regular calendar's OK. 'Sup?
There is a real disconnect that has begun recently in the Beta Yahoo! between the basic (actual) calendar and the summary module on the homepage. What is seen by a few of us not traveling is the application adds three hours to the time you supply to the calendar. I gave up and went back to the classic Yahoo! where the problem isn't happening.

Importance of some Events Leading to/In the American Revolution?

I need some help.. What is the significance of the following events leading up to/in the American Revolution?

1. George Washington at Valley Forge:

2. British Surrender at Yorktown:

3. The Boston Massacre:

4. The Intolerable Acts:

I need to know how it affected America/The World.. not facts about the events. Thanks.

And don't mix up the Civil and Revolutionary war.

Importance of some Events Leading to/In the American Revolution?
I don't know about the rest of the world, but I will give you an American's point of view:

1. Valley Forge was important because despite the fact no battle was fought there for 6 months, those poor men endured harsh conditions. Many of them died, but they stayed at the fighting. Why didn't they just say "It's not worth death this way. I'm going home." They wanted their independence and they were willing to give their lives to get it.

http://www.ushistory.org/valleyforge/

2. The British surrender is important because without it, America would not be here. Well, it might be here, but not as it is today.

3. The Boston Massacre just fueled the fire on why the colonists didn't want the British to rule the colonies anymore.

http://americanhistory.about.com/od/revo...

4. The Intolerable Acts also fueled the fire. Many people were upset about the taxes. An example would be that some people wouldn't drink tea at home (since they weren't buying it), but they wouldn't drink it anywhere else either to show how unhappy they were with British rule.

http://americanhistory.about.com/od/decl...

There's also a quote in this link about the Boston Massacre. It coincides with what I said above.
Reply:Washington at Valley Forge is not so much a direct action on the part of the Commander, but his use of available resources and his efforts to acquire unavailable resources.

He used von Steuben to good advantage in training the army in tactics. The training given those 100 selected men, who were then distributed into the army, made it a viable working unit that eventually won the war.

In trying to get supplies for his men, he was apparently exaggerating their condition. Archeological digs at the site have found large animal bones in the firepits dating to that period. Evidently the men were eating beef, not soap. He embellished the truth in order to get more supplies for his men, I think. Its along the principle, ask for twice what you need figuring you'll get half of what you ask for.

British surrender at Yorktown, established a foundation for our independence. The city of New York would remain in enemy hands until after the peace treaty in 1783, but this brought an end to hostilities on this continent.

The British won the war, overseas that is, in gaining control of the West Indies and improving their situation in India.

The Boston Massacre provided a platform for the propaganda machine of Sam Adams and Paul Revere. It did provide a sensationalized picture of how the Regulars were behaving in Boston.

Boston became established in the minds of the government, and probably the populace in Britain as the flashpoint where any rebellion would start.

The Intolerable Acts created a climate of mistrust between the colonies and Parliament. From the Tory perspective, this was the colonials duty to pay for the war they had begun. From the American Whig perspective, this was Parliament inflicting undue suffering on its constituency.

Events coordinator info/details for job?

Thanks debbiecat! Well, I am applying for an events coordinator post at a major art gallery in london. I would like some information for this type of job and what it usually entails. Also, what do you think are the main skills you need, what is the 'must have' in terms of attitude.

To clarify I am applying for this job but its most likely that I'll get an interview since I already work there in another department.

So I would appreciate advice for a cover letter and the interview.

Thanks in advance!

Drinks to come if I get the job!

Events coordinator info/details for job?
I'm not sure what your current job or experience is so its difficult. You will be required to be hyper-organised and possess excellent networking skills. You should be able to cultivate relationships with suppliers and be able to 'think outside the box'. You will need a calm head in a crisis (and trust me - there will be many crisis!)

You must be prepared to roll up your sleeves and make canapes at the last minute or entertain the Chairman of an international conglomerate on your own.

So all in all - you've got to be a high-energy all rounder, with real 'officer quality' and organisation skills.

I would suggest

Dear

I am writing with regards to the Events Coordinator post, currently advertised in *****

I am currently a **** working in the *** department, under ****.

I have recently begun to feel that my experience and skills could be stretched further and that my attributes would be well suited to events organising.

I am highly organised with a strong creative streak. With the ability to handle a crisis, think on my feet and 'think out of the box' I feel I would be ideal for this role.

Please find attached my CV for your perusal.

I look forward to hearing from you

XXxx

Something like that?
Reply:Ok, you will need to be flexible, completely unflappable and able to work under pressure. You will require excellent communication skills as you will be the liaison between a number of different parties, especially at an art gallery. You will also need to be prepared to work unsocial hours. Good luck!
Reply:events coordinator is a vague description %26amp; you need to ask them for a job description.

I Want To be An Events Planner?

I left college 3 years ago, half way to a degree in Sociology with a concentration on Social Deviance. After spending my time working various jobs I have felt restless and dumbed down...as in people don't realize that I'm actually quite brilliant. I was gievn the opportunity to plan several Gallery events for a photographer friend of mine and discovered that I have quite a passion and knack for such a field. I'm aware that Social Deviance won't be an all together helpful major and was thinking of returning to college in January but majoring in Mass Communications with a concentration in Public %26amp; Corporate Communications while dropping Sociology down to my minor...why waste credits, right?

Does that sound like a good idea? Any other advice on where to start? I'd prefer not to plan business events, if that helps. I am most interested in doing restaurant premiers, galleries, social events, and the VERY occaissonal wedding.

Thanks!

Events that have influenced gay rights and gay rights activism?

could you please give me a little information about Stonewall and any other significant events that have influenced gay rights and gay right activism?

Events that have influenced gay rights and gay rights activism?
The Stonewall riots were a series of violent conflicts between New York City police officers and groups of gay and transgender people that began on June 28, 1969, and lasted for several days.

Stonewall was a watershed for the worldwide gay rights movement, as gay and transgender people had never before acted together in such large numbers to forcibly resist police harassment directed towards their community.

Three years before the famous rioting at New York's Stonewall Inn , there was a riot in San Francisco at Gene Compton's Cafeteria .

The Compton's Cafeteria Riot occurred in August 1966 in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco. This incident was the first recorded transgender riot in United States history.

In the aftermath of the riot at Compton's, a network of transgender social, psychological, and medical support services was established, which culminated in 1968 with the creation of the National Transsexual Counseling Unit, the first such peer-run support and advocacy organization in the world.
Reply:Stonewall Jackson?? the Civil war general was gay??/....cool
Reply:The 1969 riot was named after the Stonewall Inn , a small mafia run bar w a gay and lesbian clientele . In those days all big city gay bars were regularly raided by sometimes violent police squads who sought cash payoffs to not make raids for awhile . On this particular night , the patrons and others nearby fought the police for several hours . Better conditions for gays and less harrassment soon followed . Both the gay community and the police dept learned something that nite .

Help w/ extracurriculars events?

Hello,

I am in charge of many clubs, such as

A book club

a science club

a asian club

and amnesty international

i would like some ideas about what i cud do w/ these clubs such as events, things that cud raise money, help other people out or just for fun

what would u suggest? what events wud u thing wud be nice? and what are some ideas that i cud use in the club like for example

for asian club : henna tatoos

or something that cud help raise money

Help w/ extracurriculars events?
For your Asian club, it might be fun to have members cook and put on an Asian dinner. Usually the best way to make money at these types of things is advertise as free but accepting donations. People are more likely to be generous when they don't have a set price.

A book club could sponsor a book exchange where people could bring in used books to exchange for other people's used books. It is nice because you can get a book for basically free that you have never read before and you can get people together to chat about different books while you're doing it.

A science club could do a public service by educating people about hot scientific topics, offering interesting seminars in easy to understand terms, or teaching people how to use scientific instruments that are of use to them. You could also put on a science field day where you could invite local elementary schools and have members of your group volunteer to man different science stations that teach different concepts to the kids in a fun way.

4 Most Important Events, Issues or Trends in Modern Politics?

4 Most Important Events, Issues or Trends in Modern Politics?

hey, I started my first university political science class, and the proff said to think of what we consider the 4 most important issues, events, or trends since 1946 (end of WWII) I already thought of about 8, but I just wanted to get some more perspective, other viewpoints, etc.

Some of the ones I got were:

-Fall of the Berlin Wall

-Iranian Revolution of 1979 and Iran-Iraq War 1

-Rise of economic conservatism in the 1980s (reagan, thatcher, etc.)

-Cuban Missile Crisis

-Genocides in Rwanda/Kosovolo (sp?)

-Kyoto

-9/11 attacks

-Vietnam War

any others you can think off. I don't want the same ones as the other 50 kids in the class, so I'm really trying to find some abstract ones.

anyone have any others, or agree/disagree with any that I have?

4 Most Important Events, Issues or Trends in Modern Politics?
You certainly mentioned important ones.

You mentioned fall of the Berlin Wall, how about the rise of the Berlin Wall?

I think 4 of my Most Important would be:

1. The Cold War - when the two biggest boys on the block are feuding, it affects everybody.

2. The Space Race - a corollary to the Cold War. This was also USSR versus USA, but mostly peacefully done. The advances in technology gained from this race were phenomenal.

3. Middle East Conflict - not much more needs to be said about that. 9/11 is a fallout from that.

4. The Age of Instant Communication - Home computers and the Internet, cable TV and especially 24 hour news, etc.

I hope this gives you a different look on some things. This isn't to say yours aren't top 4, this is just 4 different ones than yours.

Events Management planning process!?

Can anyone explain to me what the planning process is in the events management industry?? Thanks in advance!

Events Management planning process!?
Not quite sure what you are getting at. Events Management can be a massive undertaking but it depends entirely on the scale of the event as to what the planning process will be. eg entertainment licence, police/security, first aid, amenties, electric/water supply. etc etc. It the event a small garden party or T-in-Park...?

Can you be a little more specific as to what you need to know?
Reply:I can but it will cost you If you want event management I am willing to do it for my usual fee .You get nothing for nothing .

Events of the time with Shakespere.?

I need to know big events that happened with shakespeare, and i need them in order. if you find any websites that include this information, please copy and paste it below. Here are the questions that I should have answered to:

1.) Who were explorers at that time? What did they do?

2.)What was a famous battle in Elizabethan times?

3.)Describe the conflict in the Church at that time.

4.)Who were the enemies of Elizabeth I?

5.)What did they believe?

6.)A person who had an influence on what the Elizabethans believed was a man named Dionysius. Find out about him and his ideas on how the world was ordered on “The Holy Angels Site”.

7.)What were the four humours? Work out which humours go with which characters in your play, for example, if you are studying Romeo and Juliet, what humours does Mercutio have?

My teacher gave me these sites to look at, but i need more:

-Elizabethan Medical Beliefs

-Medical Beliefs and Practices

Good luck and best wishes, sugarandspicez95. Report It

Reply:Ok, I will give you some, but you will look up the others. Also, go to Blockbuster or Netflix and rent Elizabeth. Great movie.

1. Sir Francis Drake - Elizabeth knighted him for his acts of piracy "technically he was operating under a Letter of Marquee" (look up that term) against the Catholic Spanish.

2. The Spanish Armada attacked England in 1588, and was destroyed. The English had faster though smaller ships, a storm came up, and the Spanish Galleons were destroyed. However, without the storm, we may all be speaking Spanish right now because the Armada was far more powerful than the English fleet.

3. The Church was in the middle of the Counter reformation - After Martin Luther posted his Thesis on the cathedral, the Church went through a bad time. Finally realizing it was making some bad mistakes, it corrected many of its bad practices such as the Sale of Indulgences. It also was struggling with the loss of its political hegemony. England and several other nations turned from Catholicism, and there were often wars between Catholic and non Catholic nations.

4. Look up Mary, Queen of Scots.

Good luck with the rest!

Medical cover for events?

Why oh Why do people who organise events never check the qualifications of ppl who do the medics, even now im retired as a medic when I go to these events and ask to see thier certificates a lot say on the bottom its a certificate that they completed the course not a certificate of competence, one I found was carrying a Cardiac Defibrilator and didnt have a clue how to turn it on he was also carrying cannulas %26amp; drip sets,His excuse was he had them in case a Dr was present,It infuriates me these ppl are cowboys playing with ppls lives. An no one seems bothered till the S**t hits the fan.

Medical cover for events?
well said my friend, its a disgrace that anyone who has a qualification can take charge of a major event and employ idiots to look after our welfare, I am a state reg paramedic and some of these people scare the life out of me,i would not let them look at my pets never mind myself,

I think the points you raise are spot on and its going to take another ibrox disaster or a hillsborough before the people at the top realise the cover is not sufficent, unfortunately its down to cost, the football games we cover in glasgow have had the hours reduced to drop the bill even although its non profit making,???

They used to give the crews a meal voucher to get a burger and a drink and they have even stopped that to cut costs,,,so what chance do you have of them employing more proffesional people, its the old story im afraid, its all roses untill something goes horribly wrong and then **** hit the fan,,

cheers
Reply:I agree with you people who want to be heros can actualy cause the death of some 1 if they dont have any experience and as for the guy who was carrying the de fib i wouldnt have like him to use it on me with no experience on how to use it what is the world coming to with these jokers going round as wana be doctors and nurses.
Reply:Your concern is very genuine. Event Management people, should definitely, insure participants, including fans. I think, the Insurance companies also should be, taking some blame. They have not, properly made aware of such Cover, if there is one.
Reply:I am a volumteer with St John Ambulance. I have been for about four years now. I can't say what anybody else does but our personnel do not carry any copies of certificates with them so the only way to check on qualifications would be with county HQ. I can't say what anybody else does but with SJA all the courses have a set lesson time with pass/fail practical exam at the end, If the examiner doesn't think you are competent you won't pass or get your certificate. You don't specify if this chap with the defib was working for a registered charity or a private first aid organisation. The only thing i can say which might offer a solution is if the defib he had was a different model to the one he had been trained on. In SJA if you do the defib course and pass the assesment then you have a legal obligation to use that machine wether or not you have been trained on it. As a paramedic you would know there are lots of differenet types of defib out there from fully automatic to fully manual. As to why he had canulas, the mind boggles. To answer your question i would say it is not up to the organisers to check on qualifications. They should send in a risk assesment to whoever they want to cover the event and then it is up to that organisation to supply enough qualified people with equipment as theey see fit. Hope this helps

Songs about real events.?

There are many songs about actual events. Two of my favorites are the Boomtown Rats "I dont like Mondays", On 29 January 1979, 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer opened fire on children arriving at a School in San Diego from her house across the street, killing two men and wounding eight students and a police officer.

Also, "Kevin Carter" by the Manic Street Preachers, written for the Pulitzer Prize winner after he photographed a starving toddler in Sudan being stalked by a Vulture. He commited suicide three months later.

Are there any songs you respect that are written after events have taken place?

Songs about real events.?
American Pie - Don Mclean

It's about "the day the music died" which is in reference to the plane crash in 1951 that killed Richie Valens, Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper.

Sadness Will Sear- Trivium

It's about the murder of Matthew Shepard.
Reply:"Call Me When You're Sober" was written about an ex-boyfriend that Amy Lee had. He only called her when he was drunk. You remember the lead singer from Seether right? Well, that's who it's about and that's why she's decided not to work with him again.
Reply:A couple come to mind...

"We Didn't Start the Fire" (Billy Joel) is a brief cultural history lesson full of real events, people, and popular icons

"Hate Me" (Blue October) I love the song, from the life experience of the lead singer I hear....
Reply:"Pride in the Name of Love" by U2 is one of my favorites. Also, check out Rage Against the Machine. They tend to write alot of songs about real events.
Reply:"Sacrificed Sons" by Dream Theater. It's about that one day in September.
Reply:"50 Mission Cap" The Tragically Hip

True canadian hockey legend about a hockey player gone missing on a fishing trip. Lyrics go

"the last goal he ever scored won the leafs the cup" then They didnt win another till the year his body was discovered.

Kinda chilling...

"Bye Bye Miss American Pie" Don McLean

About the plane crash where The Big Bopper, Richie Valance, Buddy Holly and someone else I unfortunately cant remember was on the plane.

"the day the music died"

"Ohio" Crosby Stills Nash %26amp; Yonge

"Woodstock" Joni Mitchell

The list goes on...
Reply:Well, there's a song called "Outside a Small Circle of Friends". I forget who wrote it, but the first verse is about the Kitty Genovese case.

What are "subsequent events"?

In T2 schedule 141 (notes checklist), part 4 asks "are subsequent events mentioned in the notes?"

What does "subsequent events" refer to?

What are "subsequent events"?
If you have notes of financial statments prepared, you may see a headings "Subsequent Events". If you see this heading, then place a check mark on the question as stated on schedule 141.

In general, there are two types of subsequent events :

(a) those which provide further evidence of conditions which existed at the financial statement date; and

(b) those which are indicative of conditions which arose subsequent to the financial statement date.

The extent to which, and the manner in which, the effect of a subsequent event is reflected in the financial statements will depend on its type.

So basically any material events happens after the financial statment date are classified as subsequent events and needed to be disclosed on the notes of the financial statements.
Reply:A subsequent event is a action that was precipitated by another action.

Such as...I lost my temper and punched a guy there were SUBSEQUENT EVENTS that lead me to do this.

10 main mythology events of odysseus.?

I need 10 MAIN EVENTS that happened to odysseus for a mythology project.

I has to start from the begging of the story to the end..so the 10 MAIN EVENTS between that.

10 main mythology events of odysseus.?
1. Odysseas, son of Laertis, king of Ithaka, married to Penelope, had a son Telemachos.

2. At troy he was sent to calm down Achilleas when he had a fight with Agamemnon and convinced him to not sail back home.

3. When Achilles died he held back the Trojans alone to give time to Ajax to take his body back to the greek camp.

4. He had the idea of the Trojan Horse and this helped the Greeks win the war.

5. He defied the Gods by proclaiming them that he did not need them because he was the smartest person alive, which angered Posidon and made him his enemy.

6. It took him 10 years to return to his island.

7. He was offered immortality by godess Calypso if he stayed with her on her island but he refused because he loved his wife and his home country.

8. When he finally returned home, he returned alone, as all of his men died.

9. He kept his return secret and with the help of Athena he went to his palace disguised as an old man.

10.With the help of his son and his loyal servant he killed all the suitors and took babk his throne.

I recommend to actually reade his story, it is really interesting
Reply:Heres an idea... read the story.
Reply:Hero king from Ithaca, son of Laertes. Odysseus was considered the most clever hero, and not surprisingly, he was protected by Athena, goddess of wisdom. He often found solutions for important problems: he was amongst Helen's suitors, but to avoid war between the, he made them all swear to respect Helens decision, and to protect whoever she chose. Odysseus married Helen's cousin Penelope and they had a son: Telemachus.

It had been prophesied that Odysseus would not return for a long time if he joined the Greek army against Troy, so he decided to play crazy when Palamedes came to Ithaca to enroll him. He put on torn clothes, and tried to sow the land with salt, while ploughing the fields with a goat and an ox. Palamedes then put the baby Telemachus in front of the plough which made Odysseus stop, revealing his sanity. After this, Odysseus dearly hated Palamedes, and according to one story he got his revenge through forging a letter from the Tojan king to Palamedes and burying gold under his tent. When the letter and the gold was discovered Palamedes was accused of treason and sentenced to death.

During the Trojan war Odysseus played an important part. Together with Diomedes he stole king Rhesus horses, but the very next day he was wounded in battle. When Achilles was killed he held the Trojans back while Ajax carried the dead hero back to the camp. After the burial it was decided that Odysseus and not Ajax should get Achilles armour, and the latter committed suicide.

Odysseus was also the one to convince 50 of the Greek heroes to hide inside the Trojan horse. After the Trojan war Odysseus set off for Ithaca, which turned out to be an adventurous journey covering a decade.

The Odyssee is the story Odysseus tells king Alcinoos of the Faiacs at dinner. Leaving Troy, Odysseus and his men drifted to the city of the Cicons, where a battle took place after the crew had plundered the city

After this, they sailed off for Ithaca, but were carried away by a storm, which took them to the country of the Lotophages. This people ate the lotophag plant, which was sweet but dangerous, since it made you forget everything. Odyseeus managed to get his crew back on the ships, and off they went again.

Next, they landed on the island of the Cyclop Polyphemus, allegedly the island of Youra in the Nort Sporades. The giant shut the men inside his cave, ate a few of them and talked with Odysseus, who told the Cyclop his name was "Noone". When Polyphemus had fallen asleep he convinced the med to prepare a treetrunk, making it into a sharp weapon, which they put in the fireplace, and then thrust it into the Cyclops only eye. Crying with pain and anger, Polyphemus opened the cave and tried fumbling to catch the escaping men. They had tied themselves under the giants sheep, though, so the only thing he felt was the backs of the animals. His screams woke the other Cyclops up, and they shouted to him what was wrong. Polyphemus then answered "Noone has blinded me", which made the other Cyclops go back to bed, thinking Polyphemus had finally gone out of his wits.

The next adventure brought the shipss to the island of the winds, where the god of the winds Aeolus lived. He welcomed Odysseus, and when it was time for him to leave, the god gave him a sack which contained all the winds except the western one, telling the hero not to open it until he had reached home. For ten days and night the ships sailed at full speed. Odysseus stayed awake for fear that the men would open his sack, but when Ithaca was in sight, the exhausted hero slept. The curious crew then opened the sack, unleashing all the winds, taking the ships further away than before. They sailed back to Aeolus island, but were chased away since Aeolus had understood Odysseus was hated by the gods, especially Poseidon who hated him for defeating his son the Cyclop.

After sailing for six days and nights, the ships reached a rocky shore at a country where the people was tall cannibals. They threw rocks at the ships, and they all sunk except Odysseus.

The ship now reached the island Aiae, where Helios' daughter Circe lived. It was full of wild, but friendly animals, which were really transformed humans. The beautiful Circe invited some of Odysseus men, and turned them into swines with a magic potion. When Odysseus went to find them, Hermes appeared, presenting him with an antidote. The hero drank it, and took Circe by surprise when he did not transform. He threatened her life, and she turned the swines back to men, and offered Odysseus her love. They all lived together in her palace for a year, and when it was time for Odysseus to leave, Circe told him to find the shadow of the dead seer Tiresias down in Hades.

They sailed to the country of the Cimmerians, where it was constant night. At the source of Oceanus, they found the silent trees of Persephone. There, they dug a pit, and filled it with blood from black sacrificial animals. This summoned the dead spirits who wanted to drink the blood which would make them concious for a while. Odysseus kept them back with his sword, and only let Tiresias drink. The seer then warned Odysseus not to touch the herds of Helios when he would reach the island Thrinacea. If he did, he would reach home on a foreign ship, only to find misery, the suitors, in his palace. He would kill the suitors, and then take an oar on his shoulder, and walk until he would find a people who did not recognize the oar, and there make a sacrifice to Poseidon. After that, he would reach old age in peace and happiness, and die a mild death coming from the sea.

After Tiresias prophecy, the other dead came fourth. Odysseus met his mother, Agamemnon, Achilles, Aias plus other heroes and famous women. Finally he saw the head of the Gorgon, and ran back to his ship.

They now sailed back to Circe, who told Odysseus about the sirens. They were terrible creatures with birds bodies and ugly womens' heads, who sang so beautifully that all the sailors would jump in the sea. On Circes advice Odysseus had his men tie him to the mast while filling their own ears with wax, so that he may hear the sirens song without being able to jump. Crazed with the Sirens song Odysseus tried to sign to the crew to let him go, but they could not hear anything, and had promised the hero that they would not let him go no matter what.

The ship now came to Charybdis, a stream that sucked in and spat out the sea three times a day. After this they met Scylla, who lived in a cave on a cliff. She he had six heads on snakenecks, three tows of teeth and barked like a puppy. The monster caught six of the men.

Next stop was Thrinacia (Sicily) which Odysseus, remembering Tiresias prophesy, wanted to sail past. The men refused though, and after making them swear they would not touch Helios' herd, they went ashore. The bad weather kept them there for a month, and the men starved. Odysseus went to pray to the gods for help, and the crew now took the opportunity to kill and eat some of the oxens. On his return Odysseus saw the smoke from the cooking and terrible omens appeared: the skins of the animals crwawled around and the meat on the spits roamed. The weather calmed down, and the ship sailed off, only to be surprised by a terrible storm and being caught by Charybdis. The ship sunk and the crew drowned. Odysseus managed to save himself by clutching on to some wood.

He drifted around for nine days, until he reached the island Ogygia, where the nymph Calypso lived. Calypso took care of him, caressed him, and promised to make him immortal if he married her. The hero did not respond to this, and sat crying by the shore.

When Poseidon was away, Athena took the opportunity to beg Zeus to help Odysseus. The god then sent Hermes to Calypso with a message to let Odysseus go. Odysseus built a raft and sailed for seventeen days, until he reached Scheria, the island of the Faiacs (supposedly Corfu).

By then, Poseidon had returned, and saw what Odysseus was doing, and unleashed a new storm. Odysseus was tossed around, but was saved by Leucothea who gave the hero her veil and adviced him to save himself by swimming.

Naked and exhausted Odysseus was washed ashore on Scheria, where he was discovered by the princess Nausicaa, who had come there to wash her clothes. Her maids ran away screaming when they saw the wild and naked man, but Nausicaa approached him. She fed and clothed him, and told him where he was. She then brought him to her father king Alcinoos and queen Arete. A party was held in honour of their guest, as well as athletic games and song by the blind rhapsod Demodocus.

When the singer sung of the Trojan horse, Odysseus burst into tears and revealed who he was and what he had endured. Alcinoos then gave him precious gifts and loaded it on a ship, which took Odysseus back to Ithaca.

The hero fell asleep on the ship, and the crew put him on a shore. Poseidon was so angered by this, that he punished the Faiacs by turning the ship into stone and islolating their islands with huge mountains around it. Odysseus cried when he woke up, because he did not recognize the surroundings.

Athena then appeared before him in the shape of a young man, and told him where he was and about the suitors in his palace. They were on the verge of forcing Penelope to a decision, since they had discovered she tricked them. She had promised to make a decision whom she would marry when she had finished the death shroud of her father-in-law. At night she tore it up again, but a treacherous maid revealed this to the suitors.

Odysseus now went to the swineherd Eumaeus, and revealed his identity to him and Telemachus. Together, they went to the palace. Odysseus was disguised as a beggar, and was beaten and ridiculed by the suitors. Only his old dog Argus recognized him, wagged its tail and died.

When Penelope looked after the beggar she asked him if he had heard anything of her husband. Odysseus told him he would be back very soon, but Penelope did not dare to belive him. Cleaning him, Odysseus old nurse recognized a scar on his body, but he told her to be silent.

Penelope now put the suitors through a final test. She showed them Odysseus bow and said she would marry whoever could shoot an arrow through the holes of twelve axes in a row. One after one they tried, but they couldn't even pull the string.

The beggar Odysseus asked to have a go, and under ridicule and laughter he shot a perfect arrow through the twelve axes, then turned the bow against the suitors and started killing them with the help of Telemachus. After this the treacherous maids were punished, and finally, the palace was clear.

By killing the suitors, Odysseus had blood on his hands and he cleaned the house with sulfur. Penelope still doubted, but when Odysseus told her that their bed was made of olive tree, a sectret only he would know, she finally believed. Odysseus then went to his old father and they all lived happily ever after.

After a meeting with his people, the suitors families and friends wanted revenge, but they fled after fighting Odysseus. Athena then intervened, and peace was made.

According to later versions, the adventures did not finish there. Odysseus goes to Epirus where the Thesprotes live. Their queen, Callidice, welcomes him and they marry. Odysseus then helpes the people against their enemy. When Callidice dies, the couple's son then takes over the kingdom and Odysseus returns to Ithaca.

Then Telegonos arrives. He is the son of Odysseus and Circe, and he plunders the island without knowing where he is. Telegonos kills Odysseus and brings his dead body to Circe together with Telemachus and Penelope. Circe then marries Telemachus and makes Penelope immortal, marrying her with Telegonos.

hope this satisfies you!!

Events Management?

My brother is finishing his second year studying and training to be an events manager, could you suggest places he could try to get work experience in his chosen career eg nightclubs etc

Events Management?
Events really has two strings to it - Hospitality and Stage/Entertainement and sometimes these do tend to cross over.

For the hospitality events he could look at the Hotel and Leisure Industry. Medium to large Hotels and Hotels Chains will employ Events Co-ordinators and asssociated assistants.

For the Stage/Entertainment style event, large venues such as NEC, Roayl Albert Hall, etc, will employ in house Events staff.

However, his best chance is to look at external events companies that are used by 3rd party commercial clients to run events on their behalf or are contracted by the larger venues or production companies to run the event from start to finish.
Reply:He can also try convention center management companies %26amp; even large hotel/conference centers.

Anywhere is a foot in the door. He may have to work his way up, but that is the best way to learn how a business really works.

Good luck to him

I'm the editor of my high school's yearbook. We are covering current events, but I'm one event short. Does anyone have ideas on something that teenagers would know a little bit? {We're trying to avoid the war.}

2. The British surrender is important because without it, America would not be here. Well, it might be here, but not as it is today.

3. The Boston Massacre just fueled the fire on why the colonists didn't want the British to rule the colonies anymore.

4. The Intolerable Acts also fueled the fire. Many people were upset about the taxes. An example would be that some people wouldn't drink tea at home (since they weren't buying it), but they wouldn't drink it anywhere else either to show how unhappy they were with British rule.

US History- Curren Events Project?

Reply:You could have a lot of fun with this one. I would suggest the FEMA news conference that was staged on October 27. This was in responce to the California Fires. FEMA decided to have it's own personnel ask questions regarding the fires, and scheduled the news conference with little advance warning to the major news outlets so that they could attend. Here are a couple links with some information, including the apology that FEMA issued.
