Songs about real events.?

There are many songs about actual events. Two of my favorites are the Boomtown Rats "I dont like Mondays", On 29 January 1979, 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer opened fire on children arriving at a School in San Diego from her house across the street, killing two men and wounding eight students and a police officer.

Also, "Kevin Carter" by the Manic Street Preachers, written for the Pulitzer Prize winner after he photographed a starving toddler in Sudan being stalked by a Vulture. He commited suicide three months later.

Are there any songs you respect that are written after events have taken place?

Songs about real events.?
American Pie - Don Mclean

It's about "the day the music died" which is in reference to the plane crash in 1951 that killed Richie Valens, Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper.

Sadness Will Sear- Trivium

It's about the murder of Matthew Shepard.
Reply:"Call Me When You're Sober" was written about an ex-boyfriend that Amy Lee had. He only called her when he was drunk. You remember the lead singer from Seether right? Well, that's who it's about and that's why she's decided not to work with him again.
Reply:A couple come to mind...

"We Didn't Start the Fire" (Billy Joel) is a brief cultural history lesson full of real events, people, and popular icons

"Hate Me" (Blue October) I love the song, from the life experience of the lead singer I hear....
Reply:"Pride in the Name of Love" by U2 is one of my favorites. Also, check out Rage Against the Machine. They tend to write alot of songs about real events.
Reply:"Sacrificed Sons" by Dream Theater. It's about that one day in September.
Reply:"50 Mission Cap" The Tragically Hip

True canadian hockey legend about a hockey player gone missing on a fishing trip. Lyrics go

"the last goal he ever scored won the leafs the cup" then They didnt win another till the year his body was discovered.

Kinda chilling...

"Bye Bye Miss American Pie" Don McLean

About the plane crash where The Big Bopper, Richie Valance, Buddy Holly and someone else I unfortunately cant remember was on the plane.

"the day the music died"

"Ohio" Crosby Stills Nash %26amp; Yonge

"Woodstock" Joni Mitchell

The list goes on...
Reply:Well, there's a song called "Outside a Small Circle of Friends". I forget who wrote it, but the first verse is about the Kitty Genovese case.
