'YA Current Events', whether you like it or not, is like just like most communities - the people who 'live' here dont always see eye to eye, but if a stranger comes into our midst we all club together (remember that bloody spammer ?).
Do you feel like 'YA Current Events' is like an extension and part of your local community ?
'YA Current Events', do you feel like its part of your local community ?
Awwwwwww yeah thats what its like!
I wouldnt want to live next door to you though, your house smells and you would probably crash into my car ;)
Reply:17 pdr. Ever heard of the neighbours from hell. ? Half of the anti McCanns I would not like to live within 100 miles from. Why do you think I moved to Bulgaria. ? Here they have never even heard of the McCanns !!!!
Reply:I tried to be involved, but my own real community is not as cruel or unkind.
This small community on yahoo is in need of a social worker.
Reply:Yes I have to agree with you there. But I don't care much for some of my neighbours.
Reply:Yes I think so, its nice when a familiar name you know is on, who is funny and controversial, you can tell what type of night it will be by those that are on, and if the trolls/clones try to infiltrate the camp then yes, we do get protective of our own and stick together.
wheres that bloody rabbit gone!
Reply:You old smoothy. Just as I was thinking "He's not on the Macanns again",
Reply:No. None of my neighbourhood found my daughter's passing remotely funny, none of them mocked it or jeered or accused me of lying or said she never existed, none of them ordered me to give them photos to prove it or asked for the funeral directors numbers to verify it. And none of them came round after the service to ask where they could get a second hand pink coffin.
So, no this is not like 'most' communities, it's an internet site where people think others are faceless and so don't have feelings, where they jump on bandwaggons regardless of the facts and just copy whatever their peers are doing and saying.
I know the people in my community, they don't hide behind cartoon avatars or use a thousand different names. Sometimes some of them might have disagreements but they either sort them out or they don't, but they don't start whispering campaigns or write offensive and libellous posts in the local newspapers.
This is just what it is, a website with a bunch of strangers posting, nothing more
Reply:I don't quite see it like that, although I understand why some people feel it is. Most communities aren't based on scoring points, unless you count the "jones'" types, but in real life we can all see who's trying to keep up and we actually know the people living there. On here I can't keep up with half the name changes and so many users seem to want to keep getting personal and make verbal accusations and attacks on other users.
That aside, I do enjoy this forum and I do like looking in on News and Events most. I don't know why some people like or feel the need to put thumbs down where no great offence or controversy is immediately obvious, there should always be room for opinions to be aired and if they're not ones you agree with then say why or ignore it and move on to a different question.
But we are a forum, a site of people who want to make points and communicate and air our views but who prefer the anonymity this offers. There are some views aired here which would not be welcome in the "real" world and some of the allegations bandied on here could even be running the risk of legal actions if enough evidence of identities could be made. Some on here sail very close to the wind. Others make you think and lots of them make you laugh, still doesn't make us a community, but long may we continue as we are!
Reply:Mmmmmmm Despite not often agreeing with you I know where you are coming from. I think I stay in the 'outskirts' and sometimes C/E's really bugs me, not so much the numerous questions about the McCann's etc but when we were getting all the stupid jokes. However, I find since I joined I go away for a few days and somehow always end up back. I feel very sorry for Eden and her loss and what happened was inexcusable but thankfully at last this abuse on her seems to have ended. Much as I am so sure she is hurting I think by saying what she has in answer to your question could just start something up again and cause her more heartache. For her own good and peace of mind I think she too should now let it rest and keep her beautiful thoughts of her dearest little girl to herself, family and friends.
Reply:Yes, and a lot of the neighbours are really nice.
Most of the rest are Care in the Community though.
Reply:its like the community on the tv prog shameless!!!
Reply:My real life is an extension of my Y!A life
I'm a saddo
Reply:All I can say is there are people I agree with people I do not.
People I smile at when I read what they have written, Others I shake my head.
However as long as a person is being them not hiding behind a made up ID I would notice if they did not post
so yeah it may be virtual but it still fulfills the dictionary definition of a community
Reply:I do, don't mention the spammer it might come back!!!!! SHHHH
Reply:Funny you should mention that Dave!....yes it is.....lol
Reply:Absolutely. I definitely feel part of a community when on Yahoo. Good or bad? I don't know, but very natural I would say.
Reply:I never thought about it like that, but yes I suppose it is.
Reply:lol you'll get accused of being in a clique!
